EUDI Wallet age verification
Users prove they are over your age limit with their country's EU digital identity wallet: no selfie, no document, and only the over-age claim is shared.
Free during the beta ($0 per verification). Sign up for free, then write to us in the dashboard chat and we switch it on. Until the EU wallets launch, it runs on test data.
What the user sees
One button on your site. The rest happens in the user's wallet app.
-
1. Opens their wallet
On a phone, the wallet app opens. On a computer, the user scans a QR code with their phone.
-
2. Sees what is asked
The wallet shows the request: one claim, such as “over 18”. Name, date of birth, address and document number are not shared.
-
3. Confirms and comes back
The user confirms in the wallet and returns to your site, verified.
What you get
- The decision. Over or under your age threshold, sent to your webhook and available from the API.
- Nothing else about the person. No name, date of birth, photo or document number. The wallet does not share them.
- A checked claim. Every wallet response is checked against the issuer's signature and the trust list before it is approved.
- The same result format as the other checks. If a user takes a selfie instead, your code handles it the same way.
EUDI wallet coverage by country
Works with the national wallet apps of EU countries, for example the EU Age Verification app and France Identité, and in the browser through the W3C Digital Credentials API, a browser API rather than a wallet.
The status shows where each wallet itself stands, not ProofAge: a wallet works with ProofAge as soon as its country opens it to businesses.
| Country | Wallet | Wallet status |
|---|---|---|
| France | France Identité | Pilot |
| Italy | IT-Wallet | Pilot |
| Denmark | AltID Over-age proofs; relying-party registry pending | Pilot |
| Several member states | EU Age Verification app | Pilot |
| Germany | National wallet Launch planned January 2027 | Rolling out |
| Every other member state | EU Digital Identity Wallet Each member state must offer one by 24 December 2026 | Rolling out |
Pilot: limited access or government testing. Rolling out: announced, not open to businesses yet. Statuses as of September 2026.
Why it's a beta
The EU has not officially launched the wallets yet. The launch is expected at the end of 2026 or early 2027. Our integration is built and tested, and until the launch it runs on test data. Sign up, then write to us in the dashboard chat with the countries you need, and we switch it on.
Built on the wallet standards
OpenID4VP for the request, SD-JWT VC and the ISO/IEC 18013-5 mdoc format for the credential, with ISO/IEC 18013-7 for presentation online. We handle the eIDAS 2.0 relying-party registration and access certificates.
Other checks
The age claim is signed by the wallet’s issuer and checked against the EU trust list; nothing is estimated from a photo. It also shares the least: one claim, nothing else. Use another check when a user has no wallet yet, or when you need more than the age.
-
Facial age estimation
For users without a wallet: a selfie with liveness.
-
Age verification by ID
When your rules ask for an ID document, or you need the name and date of birth.
-
Identity verification (KYC)
When you need to know who the person is, not only their age.
To keep banned users out, use Block repeat accounts. It needs a face, so it works with the face, ID and KYC checks, not with the wallet.
What we keep
The wallet sends only the over-age claim. We never receive a photo, a document, a name or a date of birth.
Nothing is kept after the decision.
Price
$0 per verification during the beta, everything included. If a user takes a selfie instead, that verification is billed as a Facial age estimation.
Questions
Which wallets does it work with?
The national wallet apps of EU countries, for example the EU Age Verification app and France Identité, as each country opens its wallet to businesses. In the browser, it also works through the Digital Credentials API, a browser API rather than a wallet, where the browser supports it.
Why is it a beta?
Because the EU has not officially launched the wallets yet. The launch is expected at the end of 2026 or early 2027, and until then the wallet runs on test data. Sign up for free, then write to us in the dashboard chat and we switch it on for your account.
What happens if a user has no wallet?
They can take a selfie instead. That verification is billed as a Facial age estimation. If the face is inconclusive, it falls back to an ID document at no extra cost.
What does it cost?
Wallet verifications are free during the beta ($0). We will tell you the price after the beta well in advance.
What data do you see from a wallet?
Only the over-age claim, for example over 18. The user's name, date of birth, address and document number are never shared with us or with you, and nothing is kept after the decision.
