Identity verification (KYC)
Know who your users are: an ID document, a face match and a liveness check, with all the data from the document returned by API.
$0.30 per verification, everything included. Under 19 s end to end for 95% of verifications.
What the user sees
A short flow in the browser, on a phone or a computer, branded as your service. No app to install.
-
Step 1
Take a selfie
A short selfie with a liveness check confirms a real person is in front of the camera.
-
Step 2
Photograph the ID document
A passport, national ID card, driver's license or residence permit. The face on it is matched with the selfie.
-
Step 3
Get the result
The user sees the outcome on screen, and your server gets the decision and the document data by signed webhook.
What you get
Everything arrives by signed webhook and can be read back through the API.
The decision
Approved or declined, ready for your code to act on.
The document data
First and last name, date of birth, document type and number, nationality, issuing country, expiry date, and the address when the document shows one.
The checks behind it
The face match and liveness results, and whether the person matches a blocked face or device or already verified for another account.
What it covers
- Documents
- ID documents from 190+ countries: passports, national ID cards, driver's licenses and residence permits.
- The whole document is read
- Unlike Age verification by ID, where the user may cover everything except name, date of birth and photo, KYC reads every field and tells you the document type.
- Banned users stay banned
- Every KYC verification is checked against your face and device blocklists and against earlier verifications for duplicates. Block repeat accounts is always on with KYC.
- Speed
- Under 19 s end to end, from the start of the flow to a result on screen, at the 95th percentile.
- Good for
- Sellers and creators before payouts, verified-profile badges, and anyone you need to know by name.
- What it is not
- An AML service: there is no sanctions screening and no ongoing monitoring.
Need less than full KYC?
KYC is the most complete check. If you only need to know a user's age, a lighter check asks for less data.
- Age verification by ID: the same steps, but you get only over or under your threshold, name and date of birth, and the user may cover the rest of the document.
- Facial age estimation: a selfie only, for age gates where most adults should pass without a document.
- EUDI Wallet age verification (beta): the user shares an over-age claim from their wallet app. No photo, no document.
- Block repeat accounts: face blocklist, device blocklist and duplicate detection, included with KYC.
What we keep
- Photos, video and verification data are kept for 30 days, then deleted automatically.
- A face template and a device fingerprint hash are kept for 12 months, so a banned user or a duplicate account is caught later.
- Hosted in the EU by default, encrypted in transit and at rest.
Price
$0.30 per verification. Everything included: liveness, face match, the document data, blocklists and duplicate detection.

Questions about identity verification
What data does identity verification return?
The decision (approved or declined) and all data read from the document: first and last name, date of birth, document type and number, nationality, issuing country, expiry date, and the address when the document shows one. You also get the face match and liveness results, and any blocklist or duplicate match.
How is it different from Age verification by ID?
The user does the same steps: a selfie with liveness and a photo of an ID document. Age verification by ID returns only what an age check needs: over or under your threshold, first name, last name and date of birth, and the user may cover the other fields. Identity verification (KYC) returns everything on the document.
Is this an AML or sanctions screening service?
No. ProofAge checks that the document is genuine and belongs to the person in front of the camera. There is no sanctions screening and no ongoing monitoring.
How long does a verification take?
End to end, from the start of the flow to a result on screen, 95% of verifications finish in under 19 seconds.
What do you keep, and for how long?
Photos, video and verification data for 30 days. A face template and a device fingerprint hash for 12 months, so banned users and duplicate accounts are caught. After that, the data is deleted automatically.
